WHAT IS A QR CODE?
These nifty little barcodes can be scanned using camera phones equipped with a reader application. They scan the image of the code to display text, images, contact details or videos through the internet on your phone – try it with the image above!
HOW ARE QR CODES USED?
The idea is that when you see a QR Code you scan it using the reader application through your camera phone. The result will show up with a link to a site on the internet. Clicking ‘yes’ will take you to the site holding the information that the creator of the code wants you to see. It could be a youtube video, a movie trailer, contact details, a website, a promotion, a discount, a competition, a blog or even facebook. The options are limitless!
WHERE ARE QR CODES BEING USED?
QR Codes started in Japan and have been widely used in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Europe for years. They can be seen on packaging, billboards, TVs, magazines, bus shelters. If you have flown with Air New Zealand recently you may have seen one on your boarding pass.
WHO USES QR CODES?
QR Codes are still new in New Zealand and are mostly used by people between the ages of 13 to 35/45 – Teenagers, Parents, Corporates and Cellphone users.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF QR CODES?
How many times have you taken down an email address, website or phone number with every intention of obtaining information but then just not gotten around to it? QR Codes enable the user to scan the code, open the link and research the information immediately. In addition, the link is saved for ongoing access to information.
WHERE’S THE APP?
QR Code Reader Application: Free txt ‘i-nigma‘ to :+44 7797 882325 to download your QR Code Reader Application. You will get a reply with a direct link to install the i-nigma application in your phone.
The application will save either in your downloads folder or in your applications folder. Each time you want to scan a QR Code simply open the application and it will bring up a different screen through your camera. Hold your phone 10-15cm away from the code to scan. Without clicking, it will automatically bring up the information link. Clicking ‘yes’ to the link will open the internet from your phone and take you straight to the link.
